Web Identity..or lack thereof.

You know for some time now I haven’t really had a “web identity”, I haven’t felt like I’ve needed one.

Do I need one?  I tend to think the answer is no..

Perhaps my natural tendency towards introverted anti social behavior dictates this answer to me, I just get the sense that there is no real need for anyone to find me or follow me online. Don’t get me wrong, I am not paranoid or “super security conscience”. I am aware of the issues involved in identity fraud or misuse of information etc. The bottom line is…I just don’t care so much as to need to be online as a virtually constant presence.

I will say I detest the idea that anything I say, can and probably will be used against me in the blogosphere.  There are some things that should just be kept private.

In the context of business this changes and I am of the opinion that the correct or incorrect web presence for businesses can make or break companies, depending on how much they rely on the web for consumers.

Just a brief thought. In summary, web identity is not of that much importance to me.

How about you? Feel free to comment about today’s topic.

Back to Uni & learning to tweet

The last two days have been spent mainly printing resources for WEB101 and NET102 as I am working in the Clare Valley during this years vintage. With little or no web access (partly due to my laptop being stolen in January) I am spending the bulk of my weekend catching up and preparing for the weeks work ahead.

Seeing others start their writing has prompted me to contribute to my first blog, so here it goes..

Module 1 : What’s in a name?

After about 10 seconds thinking time I decided on my user name and started to proceed with creating the user profiles for the various recommended sites including twitter, facebook, blogger etc. After searching the website namechk.com the user name I have chosen “cajadesign” is representative of my business name and so I thought it would be a good idea to set this up now and start to develop a web presence for my business as I make my way through the degree.

It will be interesting as time passes to see the effects of using such a name in a social context as opposed to a purely business focused context. I have never really been interested in twitter or any other mediums such as those until now where I have been asked to use them for the purpose of study as well as my personal interest in how these mediums will help develop an online business presence.

I am also curious as to how many friendships or acquaintances may develop as a result.

Generally I have always thought that no-one is really going to give a ***t about what I have to say, time will now tell.

Some sites which I can be followed on (not all in use, feel free to add me too):

http://twitter.com/cajadesign

http://cajadesign.deviantart.com/

that shall do for now. Stay tuned for updates, or not…
